World Food Day 2018

Together, we're creating a better way to deal with hunger, for everyone, for good.

In the past four decades, the proportion of malnourished children in the world has been cut in half. But, every day, more than 5,000 children — two million each year — still lose their fight against hunger.

Hunger is predictable, preventable, and treatable. No one should suffer or die from malnutrition, especially since 90% of malnourished children who complete treatment are cured.

Action Against Hunger is the world’s hunger specialist. For nearly 40 years, we have been on the front lines, treating and preventing hunger in some of the world’s most remote and hard-to-reach places. We invented the first formula to treat malnourished children. We have created effective new models for diagnosing and treating more people. We have conducted groundbreaking research. We have been the leader in a global movement that aims to end life-threatening hunger for good, within our lifetime.

We know what works. Now, we’re doubling down. We are working to achieve an ambitious, lifesaving goal: to double, by 2020, the number of children who can access urgent hunger treatment, and to help countless more families realize their goal of never needing hunger treatment at all.

Together, we’re creating a better way to deal with hunger, for everyone. For good.

Leading a Movement

Together with our partners, we have made immense strides against hunger: since 1990, the proportion of malnourished children in the world has been cut in half. But recently, that remarkable progress has stalled.

Action Against Hunger brought together the global community dedicated to fighting malnutrition – including the United Nations, governments, foundations, and organizations – and we all agreed: even as we work to tackle difficult, long-term underlying causes of hunger, we cannot abandon children already suffering and dying from malnutrition. We committed to a big, but achievable, goal: together, we aim to double the number of children treated every year for acute malnutrition by 2020, from an estimated three million children a year to six million.

A New Partnership To Save Lives

Action Against Hunger is teaming up with This Bar Saves Lives, LLC and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development to pilot a new model for dealing with severe acute malnutrition – one that empowers American customers to give food aid with every better-for-you snack bar they buy. With this new approach, we aim to disrupt the current supply chain and create a new pipeline estimated to reach up to 250,000 children facing hunger in the next three years. This is the largest public-private partnership of its kind and will launch in Somalia in January 2019.
