Action Against Hunger Statement on Racial Justice and Equality in the US

Action Against Hunger condemns the ongoing acts of brutality and violence against the Black community. We stand in solidarity with protesters around the world advocating for racial justice and equality.

As humanitarians, we are guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. Our fundamental purpose is to alleviate hunger and human suffering – to protect lives, ensure health and wellbeing, and promote respect and dignity for all.

An unequal world is a hungry world. Too often, discrimination – and the systems and institutions that keep it entrenched – drives hunger. With Action Against Hunger offices in New York City and Washington, DC, and staff across the United States, we cannot ignore suffering in this country. We cannot stay silent when civilians are targets of violence and brutality. To realize our vision of a world free from hunger, we cannot ignore the inequities and injustices we see.

We pledge to live up to our values and promote an equal and anti-racist workplace, to encourage more diverse hiring practices, and to protect the rights of all of our employees to speak out and safely protest, should they wish to do so. We will continue to live our values of non-discrimination in our programs and reinforce the identity at the heart of our organization and everything we do:

For children that grow up strong. Against lives cut too short.

For changing minds. Against ignorance and indifference.

For action. For everyone. For good.
