Action Against Hunger’s Country Director in Haiti, Roseval Supreme, released the following statement in the wake of the assassination of the country’s President, Jovenal Moise:

“As a Haitian and a leader of a humanitarian organization that has worked in Haiti since 1985, I share the deep concerns of my fellow citizens during this troubling period. The Haitian people face tremendous challenges, including four million who struggle with rising hunger driven by issues including inflation, unemployment, civil unrest, persistent drought, as well as the direct and indirect effects of Covid-19.

In communities where we work around the world, we are concerned about the impact of conflict on hunger, and we support peace and political stability. Haiti is no different, and we call on the global community to increase humanitarian assistance to provide relief to the most vulnerable communities.

Action Against Hunger stands together with the people of Haiti, tackling structural issues and strengthening the resiliency and economic capacity of Haitian communities, and delivering emergency relief during disasters and emergencies as well as a taking long-term approach to recovery.”
