The State of Hunger in Georgia

The political and social consequences of conflicts in the 1990s and 2008 have caused social tension and high unemployment rates. The unresolved crises in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, in particular, have slowed economic improvements.

Poverty has reduced by almost half in recent years in Georgia, but more than 20% of the population lives below the poverty line, especially in rural areas and among minority ethnic groups.

How We're Helping in Georgia

Action Against Hunger promotes entrepreneurship and social inclusion projects throughout Georgia and Abkhazia, helping people start businesses and improve their livelihoods. Our teams also improve access to food by providing agricultural equipment, teaching new techniques in farmer field schools and agricultural centers, and supporting herders’ livelihoods and animal health.
