Dr. Bridget Aidam, Director, Technical Services & Innovation

Dr. Bridget Aidam joined Action Against Hunger as Director of Technical Services & Innovation in March 2020. She brings more than 20 years of experience leading and supporting research and program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation in 26 developmental and humanitarian contexts across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. 

As a member of the Senior Management Team, Dr. Aidam contributes to Action Against Hunger’s overall direction and management and provides leadership to the Technical Services and Innovation team in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.

Prior to joining Action Against Hunger, Dr. Aidam worked with World Vision and ADRA International over a 15-year period as Senior Advisor for Research and Evaluation and Health and Nutrition. In these roles, she provided technical guidance and expertise to global, regional, country and community level initiatives and multisectoral programs for improving Nutrition, Health and Food security among vulnerable groups. Her work has been in partnership with Ministries of Health, Food and Agriculture, UN agencies (WHO, WFP and UNICEF), and donor institutions including USAID, OFDA and Global Affairs Canada.

Dr. Aidam started her career working in the academic sector. An experienced researcher, she has explored and supported research and programs spanning a range of maternal child health and nutrition topics, including early childhood nutrition, adolescent nutrition, management of moderate and severe acute malnutrition, integrating agriculture and nutrition, and improving anemia. In one such research project, she contributed to Ghana’s selection as a site for the World Health Organization’s Multi-Center Growth Research Study, the outcome of which was the creation of the WHO 2006 growth standards, currently being adopted in 140 countries worldwide.  

Her research has been conducted in collaboration with University of Connecticut, Cornell, Emory, Johns Hopkins, McGill, Moi, and University of Ghana, in addition to prestigious research institutions. Dr. Aidam has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, and she has served as a reviewer for the American Society for Nutrition’s Current Development in Nutrition, BioMed Central, British Biotechnology Journal, British Medical Journal, International Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and Journal of Nutrition. 

Dr. Aidam holds a B.S. in Nutrition & Food Science from the University of Ghana and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Connecticut.
