About Marie-Sophie Simon

Marie-Sophie Simon, a French native, is the Technical Coordinator for Action Against Hunger-USA. She first joined ACF in July 2000 as a nurse/nutritionist and has field experience in many countries including Burundi, Northern Sudan, the Ivory Coast, and Pakistan. Ms. Simon has lead the nutritional teams during all of her ACF-USA missions: South Sudan, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo East and West.

Specifically, Ms. Simon has worked on nutritional surveys in two provinces, Kayanza and Kirundo, Burundi. She implemented Therapeutic Feeding Centers (TFCs) and Supplementary Feeding Centers (SFCs) in Ruyigi province of Burundi in partnership with the Ministry of Health. She conducted nutritional surveys and worked on implementing Supplementary Feeding Centers (SFCs) in Bentiu, Unity State and Bahr al Gazal in Northern Sudan. She also conducted an exploratory mission in Bouake, Ivory Coast. In Pakistan, Ms. Simon conducted nutritional surveillance in the new Afghan refugee camps in Balochistan, and NWFP, in partnership with UNHCR.

She received a four month training in Dakar, Senegal at the Institute de Technologie Alimentaire (ITS) in partnership the Institute of Research and Development (IRD). She finished her study by completing her project on the consumption of aflatoxin (the most cancerous agent) from groundnuts.

Prior to her extensive work in the field, Ms. Simon graduated from the Nice and Montpellier Sciences University, France with a bachelor's and master's degree in genetics of the population and ecosystems. She also received another master's in "Nutrition for Underdeveloped Countries" in Montpellier, France.
