- Although Honduras has not suffered the armed conflicts experienced by Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador, it was the country worst hit by Hurricane Mitch in 1998.
- Drought and the coffee crisis (international fall in price) have seriously reduced income from agriculture. The country is highly vulnerable environmentally speaking and to natural disasters.
- The economic policies driven by the IMF have not reduced the high levels of inequality in Honduras. Recently many sectors have been critical of the negotiations with the EU to create a free trade zone.
- There are numerous diseases as a result of the lack of sanitation and sanitary conditions.
- Structural poverty affects the basic needs of a large section of the population (lack of access to drinking water, sanitation, etc.)
- High levels of political corruption and an unequal distribution of wealth prevents this democracy from attaining the stability it needs.

Food Security:
- Improvement and diversification of agricultural production: family gardens, improvement of traditional crops, poultry farming, irrigation farming
- Distribution of better quality silos for the preservation of basic grains
- Soil conservation and reforestation in order to limit the impact of natural disasters
- Provision of rural banks for the valuation and capitalization of agricultural production
Water & Sanitation:
- Preparing water points and setting up irrigation systems
- Rehabilitation and extension of water distribution systems
- Training health workers who promote hygiene and technical staff of municipalities
- Protection of fountains
- Solid waste garbage depots
- Water treatment in coffee washing plants
