NGO Nutrition Coalition: Recommendations for a Future Global Partnership on Agriculture & Food Security

The G8 made the commitment in July 2008 to address the food crisis through the creation of a "Global Partnership”, which is now known as the "Global Partnership on Agriculture and Food Security” (GPAFS), which would take forward the Comprehensive Framework for Action (CFA).

One of the key objectives of the Madrid Conference is to officially launch a consultative and inclusive process which will lead to the creation of the Partnership.

As key stakeholders, we make the following recommendations which we see as critical to an effective GPAFS:

Action Against Hunger’s Community-Based Programs in D.R. Congo

While the current crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC, formerly Zaire) has drawn attention to this sprawling Central African country, this is only the latest chapter in a cycle of crises that started during the rule of Mobutu Sese Seko, Congo/Zaire’s president from 1965 to 1997 and continued after his fall.

ACF to Improve Poor Conditions in Georgian Relief Shelters

With an estimated 20,000 people still displaced in the aftermath of the recent Georgian conflict, the humanitarian aid organization Action Against Hunger | ACF International has initiated an emergency intervention in Tbilisi. Global Food Crisis & Liberia: Why Are We Waiting to Act?

Humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger | ACF-USA has published a report about the effects of rising food prices on people living in Monrovia, Liberia. Action Against Hunger is now raising the alarm about the seriousness of the situation. Urgent intervention is needed to prevent the situation from deteriorating any further. World Food Crisis: Will the G8 Take Up the Challenge of Hunger and Malnutrition?

Members of the “Group of Eight” (G8)—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the UK, and the US—have recently announced the creation of a working group to address the global food crisis, a tentative sign of hope for the nearly 860 million people faced with hunger around the world. The challenge, however, is immense: behind the current food crisis looms the threat of a broader humanitarian emergency that could push already vulnerable populations closer to starvation.

Rise in Food Prices: Measures the G8 Ought to Consider

To properly address the global emergency in food and oil prices, the international humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger / ACF-USA encourages the G8 to consider the following measures in their efforts to address the global food crisis:
