Flooding in Haiti

Two weeks after the country was devastated by Hurricane Jeanne, the situation in Haiti remains precarious: the number of casualties and the scale of material damage continue to increase in a climate of social unrest. Many areas remain inaccessible. Action Against Hunger has put in place emergency water and sanitation programmes in order to make up for the shortage of drinking water and to restore access to clean water as soon as possible.

Following the political crisis at the beginning of the year and torrential rains in May, Haiti has now been ravaged by tropical storm Jeanne.

Food Shortage Alert For Central Afghanistan

For over 6 years drought has ravaged central Afghanistan, particularly the district of Hazaradjat (Dai Kundi). This year, a winter of littler snow and no rain further diminished the few remaining resources of the people of these extremely remote areas. Last June, Action Against Hunger sounded the alarm via the press about the food situation in this region.

Central Afghanistan Facing Food Shortages

Despite higher rainfall in 2003 that followed five years of severe drought, the population in the central provinces of Afghanistan is once again threatened by food shortages.

Chechnya: Back to Hell

There is no conflict in Chechnya: that's what the Russian government, and the Chechen government in place since October 2003, are striving to demonstrate, both in word and in action.

To them, the lack of security in Chechnya is only marginal, and not an obstacle either to the reconstruction of the territory and its institutions, or to the supposedly voluntary return of refugees displaced in Ingushetia since 1999.

Needs Assessment Points to Growing Needs Among Refugees and Residents in Eastern Chad

Action Against Hunger has just carried out a needs assessment in eastern Chad, among 135,000 refugees from the neighbouring Darfur Province in Sudan. Their situation, as well as that of an estimated 1.2 million host population, is precarious and could sharply deteriorate with tragic consequences during the hunger gap, in spite of the aid community's ongoing efforts.

ACF Experts Says It's Essential to Distribute Fresh Food to Earthquake Victims in Pakistan

A team of Action Against Hunger experts in food security in the Bam region of Pakistan have determined that, although further food rations for the earthquake victims are not currently necessary, it is important to distribute food that gives the surviving population a balanced diet and to ensure that relief food reaches everyone.
