Syrian Refugees in Lebanon: Their Stories and Our Work Through Pictures

This little girl and her family are still adjusting to life in a refugee camp outside of Zahle, a small city near the Syrian border. They’re just a few of the 1.5 million civilians who have fled to Lebanon over the past three years of conflict.

Crisis in Northwest Pakistan: Hundreds of Thousands in Need

In Pakistan, according to the latest registration numbers collected by UN-OCHA, an estimated 950,000 people are fleeing their homes in North Waziristan to find refuge in neighboring provinces. These numbers are expected to fluctuate over the coming weeks as the registration process continues. Worryingly, an estimated 73 percent of these displaced people are women and children. 

South Sudanese Refugees Seek Shelter in Leitchor, Ethiopia

The conflict that began in South Sudan in December 2013 has forced 1.5 million people to flee their homes in search of safety. Over 400,000 of these people have crossed the border, becoming refugees in neighboring countries. Not only are they starting their lives over, they are starting with few resources if any at all. In Ethiopia, there are over 160,000 South Sudanese refugees and over 47,000 live in the Leitchor refugee camp, in the country’s west.

Action Against Hunger Begins Lifesaving Programs in Cameroon

In the Central African Republic, tens of thousands of people are still living with the devastating impact of the coup in early 2013 and subsequent episodes of violence. While Action Against Hunger continues to work with those internally displaced by the conflict, we have also begun assisting families fleeing to safety in neighboring Cameroon. 

"We Need Clean Water": Families Displaced from Northern Iraq at Risk

In one week, hundreds of thousands of people have fled violence in Northern Iraq and now face extremely difficult living conditions. Some have found shelter with relatives or in schools, mosques, or unfinished buildings. Others are living in temporary camps, like the one at Garmawa, where Action Against Hunger is racing to provide critical emergency services.

Growing Food Insecurity in South Sudan Triggers Emergency Response

BENTIU—June 26, 2014— Due to the quick surge in food insecurity for millions of South Sudanese, Action Against Hunger has deployed our Nutrition Emergency Team (NET) to tackle the current threats, and prepare for the growing needs of the population. The number of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) has risen to 1.1 million this month— a staggering number that has a huge effect on food insecurity in South Sudan.
