Action Against Hunger partnered with Gatorade to create G Movement, a campaign that challenged "extreme" athletes to raise awareness and funds to help end global hunger. Gatorade’s sponsorship included training grants for athletes, the production of promotional videos, and a $100,000 contribution.

Adventure Philanthropy

"In June, 32-year-old Boulder resident Mel Miller ascended 20,320-foot Denali, North America’s highest peak, then skied down the summit. She was one of 15 athletes participating in G Movement, a partnership between Gatorade and the global humanitarian group Action Against Hunger, to raise funds and awareness for the fight against hunger and malnutrition."

Local Woman Skis to Fight Hunger

"Miller pitched her ski descent idea to G Movement, the philanthropic partnership between sports drink company Gatorade and Action Against Hunger, an international organization geared toward ending hunger worldwide. Miller has raised more than $1,000 for Action Against Hunger while training for her endeavor. Once she hit that initial goal, she decided she could do more. “My original goal was $1,000 and we hit that, so I was like, ‘We should make it $5,000,’ she says."

Skiing Denali to End Hunger

"At 20,320 feet, Alaska’s Mt. McKinley, also known as Denali, boasts an extreme vertical rise of 18,000 feet–nearly twice that of Mt. Everest. Thanks to a grant from the G-Movement program—a partnership between Gatorade and the non-profit Action Against Hunger—amateur mountaineer Melanie Miller, 32, will tackle her own personal athletic challenge while raising awareness for one of the world's greatest challenges: global hunger."

Gatorade Goes the Distance in the Fight Against Hunger

From the weekend warriors of local rugby leagues to the daily jogger training for her first marathon and the next undiscovered Golden Gloves champ, people of all stripes can now put their athletic prowess to work in the fight against acute hunger and malnutrition. Action Against Hunger and Gatorade are seeking athletes and aspiring athletes alike who are fired up and ready to use their competitive edge for a great cause.

For those who never had the drive to scale Mount Everest before, saving a child from acute malnutrition could be just the incentive they need.
