Analysis: How Bangladesh aid restrictions impact Rohingyas

Assistance for the Rohingya has been precarious for some time. In July 2012 the Bangladesh government ordered three prominent international NGOs - MSF, Action Contre la Faim (ACF), and Muslim Aid - to cease aid to the Rohingyas in and around Cox's Bazaar, sparking renewed concern about the deteriorating situation, including increased levels of malnutrition and an environment rife with abuse and impunity.

Syria

As the war in Iraq ground on into the latter half of the 2000s, it created unrest across the Arab world, sending hundreds of thousands of Iraqi refugees into Syria and other neighboring countries. Unfortunately, with Syria’s unbalanced economy, limited resources, and strained infrastructure, it quickly became evident that it wouldn’t be able to shoulder the rising influx without the support of the international community.

Chad

Since gaining independence in 1960, Chad has suffered from political instability, social unrest, and conflicts with neighboring countries. This has left the country with poor infrastructure, an unstable government and a dire humanitarian situation. In addition to problems that Chadian citizens face, the country also has a great and growing number of refugees fleeing violence in neighboring countries. This influx of refugees has created an even more urgent need for humanitarian assistance. Action Against Hunger has been working to address these problems since 2006.
