Sahel Crisis: Regional Food Emergency Intensifies in Mali, Mauritania

As the regional food crisis intensifies in Africa’s Sahel region, we’ve worked to provide you with the latest information. Most recently, we wrote about the situation on the ground in Chad, where food shortages, price hikes, and drought have put many thousands of children in danger. Indeed, one million children are at risk of severe acute malnutrition across the region.

ACF-AECID Turns Over Project To Surigao Del Sur

"The Action Contra la Faim or Action Against Hunger-Agencia Española Cooperacion International Para El Desarrolllo (ACF-AECID), an international non-profit organization, has recently turned-over all its projects in five municipalities of Surigao del Sur including this city.

"A big number of household beneficiaries in the five municipalities and this city of Surigao del Sur started to benefit from the Action Contra la Faim (ACF), known as Action Against Hunger of the AECID-funded projects of the Spanish government."

As the war in Iraq ground on into the latter half of the 2000s, it created unrest across the Arab world, sending hundreds of thousands of Iraqi refugees into Syria and other neighboring countries. Unfortunately, with Syria’s unbalanced economy, limited resources, and strained infrastructure, it quickly became evident that it wouldn’t be able to shoulder the rising influx without the support of the international community.

Philippines

The Philippines has a troubled history of armed conflict between the government and various militant groups, uprooting millions of citizens from their homes over the last 40 years. While a climate of peace has prevailed over the past five years, huge inequities remain between the wealthy and extremely poor. Access to food and clean water remains a huge challenge to the most at risk, with more than 20% of Filipino children under age five experiencing malnutrition.
