2005 South Asia Earthquake

Aid Effort Perseveres Despite Increasingly Bad Weather

Temperatures hover between -2 and 10 degrees Celsius, the ground alternates between frozen solid and a sea of mud, the number of reported pneumonia cases has tripled, and, to make matters worse, it's started snowing. Yet, international aid organization Action Against Hunger (Also known as Acion contre la Faim or ACF) continues to fight against the weather and transportation nightmares to ensure that the Pakistani survivors of the South Asian earthquake will make it through the winter.

Aid Paralyzed by Lack of Air Transportation in Pakistan

The international aid organization Action Against Hunger (also known as Action contre la Faim or ACF) issued an urgent warning today that without significant international assistance there will be no way to meet all of the needs of the people in Pakistan.

Although the organization has been able to deliver some supplies, ACF emphasized that the lack of sufficient transportation has become a potentially lethal impediment to relief efforts in Pakistan.

Aid to Pakistan: Major Push Planned Despite Obstacles

The international aid organization Action Against Hunger (also known as Action contre la Faim or ACF) has increased its aid to those affected by the earthquake in Pakistan. The organization has already distributed 2.5 metric tons of food, and it will begin major distributions of shelter items (tents, blankets) in conjunction with UNICEF. It will also distribute additional food, food vouchers, and hygiene kits (soap, toothpaste) to more than 33,000 people in the hard-hit and difficult-to-access areas surrounding Battagram and Bala Kot.

In response to the devastating earthquake in South Asia, the international aid organization Action Against Hunger (known internationally as Action contre la Faim, or ACF) will fly in 30 tons of food aid and water provision supplies this week and send in a response team of water, sanitation, and food security experts.
