[VIDEO]: The Clean Water Access Initiative: Project Indonesia

In addressing the global water crisis, Action Against Hunger believes in the power of partnership. To illustrate this, we invite you to watch two videos explaining the the first project in our three-year collaboration with Tyco International. The videos show the first two phases of building a clean water system in Indonesia’s impoverished Nusa Tenggara Timur province:

Indonesia consists of a collection of islands in Southeast Asia and happens to be the fourth most populous countries in the world. While it’s largely a prosperous country, there is an alarming set of social and economic disparities, with many regions experiencing undernutrition, unemployment, chronic food insecurity and outright poverty. The end result is that 8 million Indonesian children under age five (36.8% of the population) suffer from malnutrition.

300,000 Indonesians Displaced After Volcano Wreaks Havoc

YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA—A large tsunami followed by the eruption of Mount Merapi, just weeks apart, has left Indonesia in turmoil. Hundreds are dead, and more than 300,000 displaced. Thousands continue to flee because of widespread concern that the volcano, Yogyakarta, will erupt again.

ACF Distributes Emergency Supplies in Earthquake Zone

PADANG, INDONESIA—Action Against Hunger | ACF International is responding to the immediate needs of those displaced by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra late last month. The global humanitarian group is supplying drinking water and emergency provisions to residents of Padang, the city most affected by the disaster, and surrounding areas.

ACF Responds to Disasters in Southeast Asia

PADANG, INDONESIA & MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES—Action Against Hunger | ACF International has launched an emergency response to assist the victims of two earthquakes that hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra over the last 48 hours. These natural disasters come in the wake of devastating flooding in the Philippines, where ACF teams are on the ground preparing to receive the first aerial shipment of emergency supplies.

INDONESIA: East Nusa Tenggara battling malnutrition

"...Ardhiani Dyah Priamsari, a nutrition expert with Action Contre la Faim, a Paris-based aid group, said in several places in South Timor Tengah District, malnutrition reached more than 50 percent."

Indonesian Tsunami

On 18th July, a tsunami hit Indonesia's Java Island. According to current figures, 547 people were killed, 323 people are still missing and 50,756 people have been displaced. Action Against Hunger carried out a needs assessment and has initiated water programs in three villages, assisting 5,000 people.

Post-Earthquake Indonesia: ACF International Mobilizes

The situation continues to grow worse in Indonesia in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck the region of Jogjakarta last week. Authorities now estimate more than 6,000 dead and hundreds of thousands homeless and displaced, while amidst the increased activity of the Merapi Volano everybody fears the worst.

Post-Earthquake Indonesia: ACF Team Assessing Needs

Following the earthquake that struck the Indonesian provinces of Java Central and Yogyakarta, Action Against Hunger/Action Contre la Faim (ACF) International Network dispatched a team of emergency specialists, one of whom arrived on the day of the tragedy.

ACF Implements Assistance Programs, Aceh, Indonesia

International humanitarian aid organization Action Against Hunger / Action Contre la Faim (ACF) has had a presence in Indonesia since 1997 for emergency interventions in conflict zones and for rebuilding assistance. Action Against Hunger is now intervening in Aceh, in the North of the island of Sumatra, to provide assistance to the distressed populations. The tsunami that took place on December 26, 2004 has caused the death of over 90,000 people in Aceh. Out of a total local population of 4 million, over 1million are displaced.
