Tyco International Joins Action Against Hunger to Provide Thousands of Liters of Clean Water in Haiti

NEW YORK, NY—In the wake of the January 12th Haitian earthquake that devastated much of the water infrastructure in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas, Action Against Hunger | ACF International rushed to provide access to clean drinking water by setting up more than 40 emergency distribution points and repairing damaged systems serving hundreds of thousands of people.

A Month after Earthquake, More than 100,000 People in Port-au-Prince Assisted by ACF

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI—Action Against Hunger | ACF International has provided emergency services in clean water, nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene to more than 100,000 people since the earthquake devastated the Haitian capital one month ago today. The humanitarian organization has also expanded its current operations in Port de Paix and Gonaives, cities that have experienced an influx of hundreds of thousands of earthquake survivors fleeing the capital.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI—Three weeks after the 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck parts of western Haiti, Action Against Hunger | ACF-International is providing displaced families with access to food, water, and sanitation in hard-hit neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

Meeting Urgent Needs of Women with Young Children in Haiti

Amidst the camps for earthquake survivors in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Action Against Hunger | ACF-International is establishing multiple centers specifically designed to provide a range of services to mothers with young children, including a safe environment for breastfeeding, as well as medical, nutritional, and psychological support. Four makeshift tents are already operational, and by the time the program is completed, some 5,000 mothers and their infants will receive this specialized assistance.

Sewage runs, garbage piles up at Haiti quake camps

"Aid group Action Against Hunger has installed water distribution points at the camp where people crowd round with buckets, but emergency latrines have yet to be installed. A large area around a small cluster of tatty and overflowing public toilets is full of clumps of human excrement and dirty tissues. A large public fountain where many strip off to wash has turned an opaque dark green covered with scum and garbage."
