82,000 People Affected by Floods in Kenya

Since March, severe flooding caused by heavy rains has devastated the usually dry region of Tana River County, Kenya. The lives and livelihoods of more than 82,000 people hang in the balance, as they have lost their belongings, farmland, livestock, and access to clean water. An estimated 63,000 people are still displaced, unable to return home because their houses have been destroyed.

"We Were Eating Weeds": From Suffering to Success in Kenya

In 2011, more than 20% of people in the arid southern region of Kenya called Garbatulla District were suffering from deadly malnutrition due to severe drought. In response to these alarming numbers, Action Against Hunger provided emergency nutrition programs in twenty-five communities throughout Garbatulla District. Our teams trained local leaders and volunteers to help identify and educate those in need, and worked collaboratively with these volunteers to strengthen and improve our programs based on feedback from participants.

As Kenyans Vote, the World Will Watch

When I visited the village of Sombo in Kenya’s eastern Tana River District this past August, I made an instant friend. Kenya: Vaccines, Vitamins and Vegetables - On Nutrition Fight Frontlines

"Dr. Sandra Mutuma is senior nutrition advisor to Action Against Hunger U.K. and lead author of a report on nutrition presented last month at Westminster, home of Britain's Parliament, by Action Against Hunger and IDS. She says only about 1 percent of the funds needed to effectively address undernutrition are currently being spent. That may be changing, with both individual African governments and international donors showing new resolution to tackle the problem.
