CHAD: Adapting emergency food aid to combat malnutrition

Towards a Worsening Humanitarian Crisis in Chad

Uncertainty is the only current outcome given the ongoing military confrontation in Chad. The humanitarian situation was dire before fighting erupted last week, but Action Against Hunger / Action Contre la Faim (ACF) is concerned the crisis will deteriorate further in N’Djamena and in the sprawling camps for refugees and internally displaced peoples in the east.

Humanitarian Crisis: Threatens Thousands Displaced in Chad

In Southeastern Chad, recurring violence, attacks and fighting have forced nearly 120,000 people to be displaced and seek refuge close to towns and villages that have been spared by the violence. People are living in terrible conditions and international assistance only reaches them sporadically mainly due to the insecurity. Action Against Hunger would like to draw attention to the plight of people living in the Dar Sila area to prevent a humanitarian crisis of a major scale.

Needs Assessment Points to Growing Needs Among Refugees and Residents in Eastern Chad

Action Against Hunger has just carried out a needs assessment in eastern Chad, among 135,000 refugees from the neighbouring Darfur Province in Sudan. Their situation, as well as that of an estimated 1.2 million host population, is precarious and could sharply deteriorate with tragic consequences during the hunger gap, in spite of the aid community's ongoing efforts.
