Hunger and AIDS

Action Against Hunger, one of the leading organizations in the fight against hunger and malnutrition, is playing an important role in tackling the challenges of HIV/AIDS worldwide by addressing the essential links between HIV and nutrition. Action Against Hunger is mainstreaming HIV through all areas of its work to fight HIV/AIDS related malnutrition through its areas of expertise. Action Against Hunger can assist through interventions in nutrition, health, food security, water/sanitation and advocacy.

Lebanon: Thousands Survive Despite Insufficient Water

International humanitarian aid organization Action Against Hunger’s (ACF) teams of water-and-sanitation specialists are at work in the areas of Qana, Sadiquine, Kafra, and Yatar, just 10 kilometers from the Israeli border. They are working around the clock to deal with the complete lack of water derived from the destruction of crucial infrastructure during the war. The teams, along with ACF’s nutrition teams, have had to withdraw several times due to security incidents in the areas.

"Campaign to End Starvation in the Congo" Launches As Historic Election Nears

Action Against Hunger, a world leader in the fight against hunger, is launching a "Campaign to End Starvation in the Congo" on the eve of the Democratic Republic of Congo's first multiparty elections in more than 40 years. Action Against Hunger hopes the election will herald a new era of peace and stability in a country emerging from a decade-long civil war, where 1,200 people continue to die every day in what has been called the "Most Neglected Humanitarian Crisis" on earth.

Somalis Caught in a Stranglehold

The world has turned its attention recently to fighting among "Islamist tribunals" and "warlords" in Somalia, but for 15 years the population's access to basic resources and critical humanitarian aid has been tenuous. The country's unpredictable climate, a general lack of security, and the absence of essential services in this country, which has not had a government since 1991, are aggravating the Somalis' precarious situation.

Airplane with More Than 20 Tons of Aid Reaches Niger

On Sunday, August 28, the international relief organization Action Against Hunger (ACF) sent an airplane from Barcelona to Niamey, capital of Niger, carrying more than 20 tons of humanitarian aid to deal with Niger's food crisis.

The current situation in Argentina, in terms of its population quality of life, continues to be very difficult. 44.3% of Argentinians live in poverty (all those families and individuals with revenues lower than 50% of the net average income) and approximately 17% is considered indigent. Urgent Situation in Darfur: ACF Mobilizes in Nyala

One week from the end of the 30-day deadline imposed by the United Nations Security Council, and with African-Union sponsored peace talks underway between rebels and the government, the humanitarian situation for the Darfur population continues to be of great concern.

The rainy season has worsened the situation in terms of hygiene for already-destitute populations who have been displaced many times. In addition, the heavy rains have hampered the international aid effort.

Haiti Must Not Sink Into The Abyss, Again

Since President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was forced to depart, two months ago, the humanitarian situation in Haiti has been precarious at best. Action Against Hunger warns that it is absolutely essential to provide long-term humanitarian aid to the Haitian population.
