A New Christmas Giving Tradition for the Lordeman Family

The Lordeman family’s Christmas gifts had changed over the years as the grand children got older. They had always been a family of list makers. If you didn’t get your wish list out by Thanksgiving you were nagged until you did. In recent years, most of the wish lists were being dominated by items such as donations to food banks, blood donations in the recipient’s name, or coupons for services – in other words, fewer and fewer commercial items were exchanged.

Cross-Country Inline Skater Reaches San Diego Destination

Twenty-one year old Jack Sisson recently completed an inline skating excursion across the country to promote Action Against Hunger’s life-saving programs, and to undertake a thrilling adventure. Setting off from Yorktown, VA on June 10th, Jack’s solo journey took him through 10 states and 5 sets of wheels, which had to be replaced when he wore through them.

Race Against Hunger Student Spotlight

Just Passing Through: Student Rollerblades Cross-Country for Global Hunger

Jack Sisson embarked on a cross-country excursion on June 10th, armed with nothing but the backpack on his back and the rollerblades on his feet. Inline skating from Yorktown, Virginia to San Francisco, California, Sisson is taking this three month sojourn from the day-to-day life of a Dartmouth junior to benefit the international humanitarian group Action Against Hunger /Action Contre la Faim (ACF).

Twenty-one year old Jack Sisson will undertake a solo trans-America Inline skating trip to increase awareness of global hunger and to raise funds for Action Against Hunger. Sisson will make the 3,800 mile trek from Yorktown, VA to San Francisco, CA over the course of 100 days.

Girl Scout Troop uses cookie sales to help kids around the world

Girl Scouts logoWhen Troop Leader Mrs. Hargreaves asked her ten Girl Scouts what they wanted to do with their earnings from cookie sales, she expected them to suggest one of the ideas that the group had discussed earlier in the year -- a trip to a local water park or a sleepover night at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Instead, the nine and ten year olds were focused on one thing: using the money to help children around the world.
