ACF Launches Emergency Response in Philippines

MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES—The international humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger | ACF International is rushing to provide immediate assistance to the victims of Typhoon Ketsana, which hit the Philippines on Saturday. Severe flooding caused by the typhoon has forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes and into temporary relief centers in the capital city of Manila and surrounding provinces.

Flooding in Burkina Faso Leaves Tens of Thousands Homeless

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso—International humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger | ACF International has mounted an emergency response after the heaviest rainfall in almost a century destroyed major parts of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The flooding has affected more than 150,000 people, a third of whom have sought refuge in dozens of temporary shelters throughout the city.

Severe Drought Causes Acute Malnutrition Spike in Eastern Mali

Gao, Eastern Mali—International humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger | ACF International has issued an appeal for urgent action to counter the alarming rates of acute malnutrition in Gao, an eastern region of Mali. Surveys carried out in the area reveal that 16% of children under five—more than 1,600 in total—have moderate or severe acute malnutrition, a proportion that exceeds the World Health Organization’s emergency threshold of 15%.

Nutrition Emergency Declared in Central African Republic

The number of children suffering from acute malnutrition in the southern Berbérati region of the Central African Republic (CAR) far exceeds the United Nations’ emergency threshold for severe acute malnutrition, according to a study carried out by Action Against Hunger | ACF International.
