West Bank: Water Restored to Thousands

WEST BANK, PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES—In response to severe water shortages in the southern West Bank, international humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger | ACF International has improved access to water and sanitation for over 12,500 people in some of the places hardest hit by the 2009 drought.

ACF Launches Emergency Response to Tropical Storm Agatha

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA—In the aftermath of tropical storm Agatha, global humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger | ACF International is providing emergency relief to 50,000 people in the hard-hit region of Escuintla, Guatemala, where severe flooding has destroyed homes, contaminated drinking water, and threatened food supplies for thousands of families. The tropical storm battered the region on June 1st, leaving over 250 Guatemalans dead or missing and displacing at least 125,000 others.

Hundreds of Palestinian Families to Benefit from Job Opportunities in Hebron Governorate

Palestinian Territory—The international humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger | ACF International, in partnership with the Union of Agriculture Work Committees (UAWC) and Dura Cooperative Association for Agricultural Processing (DCAAP), announced today the launch of its second emergency employment project for Hebron Governorate. With funding from the European Commission Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO), temporary job opportunities rehabilitating agricultural roads and in food production will be available for more than 550 unemployed men and women.

Staggering Malnutrition Rates Uncovered in Chad

BAHR EL GHAZAL, CHAD—A nutrition survey conducted in Bahr el Ghazal, a vast semi-arid region of western Chad, reveals global acute malnutrition rates well above the emergency threshold designated by the World Health Organization (WHO), Action Against Hunger | ACF International announced today. In response, the international humanitarian group has launched a multi-pronged intervention to support an estimated 17,000 children with the deadly condition in the region.

A Month after Earthquake, More than 100,000 People in Port-au-Prince Assisted by ACF

Haiti: Access to Water and Sanitation Urgently Needed

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI—Less than 48 hours after a massive quake devastated parts of western Haiti, Action Against Hunger’s teams already on the ground have fully mobilized to meet humanitarian needs. External emergency personnel from Action Against Hunger | ACF International have also arrived to reinforce relief efforts already taking place, assess needs, and set up programs to assist disaster victims.

Earthquake in Haiti: Emergency Response Mobilized

PORT AU PRINCE, HAITI—Action Against Hunger | ACF International has mobilized an emergency response following the earthquake that devastated the city of Port-au-Prince yesterday. ACF teams on the ground have begun to carry out rapid evaluations across the city, while additional support, equipment, and materials—including water treatment supplies, emergency vehicles, and communications equipment—are en route from ACF’s bases in Gonaives.

 

Extreme Food Insecurity Surfaces in Guatemala

CHIQUIMULA, GUATEMALA—Surveys carried out by Action Against Hunger | ACF International along the Guatemalan border with Honduras show widespread food insecurity and high levels of malnutrition in a region buffeted by the global recession and poor rainfalls. The global humanitarian group has intervened on an emergency and long-term basis, treating children with severe acute malnutrition and implementing nutrition, food security, and water and sanitation programs in the area.
