Every Member of the Action Against Hunger Team in Muttur was Killed

All seventeen of Action Against Hunger's employees in Muttur were found dead lying face down at the organization's base in Muttur. An Action Against Hunger team arrived at the scene and has officially confirmed the scale of the massacre. Amid ongoing fighting, the team recovered the bodies of the 17 national employees and brought them back to Trincomalee.

Fifteen Humanitarian Workers Killed in Sri Lanka

On Sunday, August 6, 2006, Action Against Hunger's offices in Paris confirmed the deaths of 15 of the organization's aid workers in the Sri Lankan town of Muttur. Benôit Miribel, Director-General of the organization described the disaster as the worst in Action Against Hunger's 27 years of existence.

Gaza Emergency

Although temporary opening of Karni brought minimal supplies to markets, the population does not have enough money left to pay for food. Prices are increasing rapidly and this, combined with dwindling household incomes and a dire conflict-related economic collapse, means that people are having to survive on less food and of inferior quality.

Alarming Malnutrition Rates In Northwestern Nepal

The northwest of Nepal has been affected by drought for more than six months. This has led to a crisis among people living in isolated areas of the region. A one-month assessment in the region by teams from Action Against Hunger (also known as Action contre la Faim or ACF) found that more than 85% of the population has used up all its stores of food. In addition, severe malnutrition rates among children younger than five years of age are higher than in Darfur.

Cholera Surges in Angola

More than 20,000 Angolans are infected by cholera. At least 900 have died already. Health institutions and humanitarian organizations are working to treat those infected by the disease and to prevent its spread. The aid organization Action Against Hunger/Action Contre la Faim (ACF is concentrating its efforts on the municipalities of Cubal and Kayumbo, in the Benguela district in the west of the country.
