Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) Position Paper 2.0

This 2.0 version is an update from the previous 2008 IYCF-E Position Paper and seeks to highlight the issues, challenges and guidance relating to the optimal promotion, protection and support of IYCF in emergency contexts.

Ensuring the promotion, protection and support of optimal IYCF-E is a particularly important issue for ACF and continues to remain at the forefront of our advocacy and research agendas. ACF is actively engaged in the Infant Feeding in Emergencies (IFE) Core Group and Managing Acute Malnutrition in Infants (MAMI) Group.

In particular in the past years, we have faced at global level a resurgence of emergency contexts where the appropriate protection and support of IYCF-E has been critical. Though there are still a number of pending questions at global level, particularly with regards to non-breastfed children and contexts with a high use of breastmilk substitute (BMS), we hope that you will find this paper informative and helpful.
