Film Director Terry George to Receive Humanitarian Award

Action Against Hunger’s Humanitarian Award will be presented at the Nov. 7th Gala in New York City New York, NY — The humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger has announced that Academy Award nominee and film director Terry George will receive the 2007 Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award. Mr. George will be honored for his long-standing humanitarian commitments, his steadfast support of Action Against Hunger, and the impact of Hotel Rwanda, his award winning depiction of the Rwandan genocide.

“Terry George has done much to bring attention to the plight of innocents caught in the crossfire of a civil war and to champion the humanitarian values embodied in one man’s valiant struggle to save lives,” states Action Against Hunger’s Executive Director, Nan Dale. “We’re proud to be honoring someone with such outstanding humanitarian credentials.”

The annual Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award recognizes those individuals who have made a notable contribution to the humanitarian field, whether through direct efforts, their philanthropic support, or their help in raising public awareness. The award will be presented to Terry George at Action Against Hunger’s 8th annual Benefit Gala on November 7th at Capitale in New York City.

Previous recipients of Action Against Hunger’s humanitarian award include Nobel Laureates President Nelson Mandela (’04) and Archbishop Desmond Tutu (’05), as well as Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon (’06) and the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt (’02). Action Against Hunger’s 2006 Benefit Gala netted over $1,000,000 for the organization’s life-saving international programs.
