Race Against Hunger 2008
Inaugural Race Against Hunger USA Raises Over $10,000 to Fight Global Hunger!
Spring 2008 marked Action Against Hunger-USA’s first annual Race Against Hunger with 500 students participating from four middle schools in Chicago—The Ancona School, The Catherine Cook School, Near North Montessori School, and the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. The 2008 Race was sponsored by Sigg USA.
By collecting pledges for each lap they ran during the Race, students raised a total of $10,341 to fight world hunger! This equates to each student raising an average $100 to support Action Against Hunger’s life-saving work around the world. Congratulations to our four inaugural schools!
The money these students raised will go a long way in helping save the lives of malnourished children around the world. It only takes 30 days and $50 to treat a severely malnourished child on the brink of death. The $10,341 the Chicago students raised will be able to save over 200 children.
Not only did Chicago middle schoolers raise an extraordinary amount of money, they also had fun with their peers, learned about the causes of world hunger and malnutrition, and demonstrated the unique power of students to make a difference in the world.
With such a remarkable precedent set in Chicago, the 2009 Race Against Hunger is bound to be a success!
