Job Objectives: 
Established in the USA in 1985, Action Against Hunger-USA re-opened its New York office in 1997 and currently has responsibility for seven missions in six countries: Democratic Republic of Congo East and West, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, Tajikistan and Uganda. Action Against Hunger USA manages nearly $30 million in programs, has twenty-five permanent staff based in NYC, over 70 international employees and 1,200 national employees in the missions.
Main Objectives
The main focus of this position is to provide support to the Nutrition, Primary Health Care, Food Security and Water and Sanitation programs. The logistician must also build the capacity of the local logistic staff, and continue the review and improve the logistics practices of the mission, developing better harmonisation with the Administrative and Program functions in accordance with the ACF Charter.
Responsibilites
  • Supervising the supply of goods (locally, regionally, internationally).
  • Management of purchase (local, regional, international), customs clearance and quality control.
  • Management and supervision of warehousing and stocks.
  • Organization of distribution networks and supervision of deliveries.
  • Setting up logistic infrastructure and standard ACF procedures.
  • Selection of and negotiation with local suppliers, negotiation with forwarding agents and international organizations.
  • Management of vehicle fleet and supervision of maintenance and spare parts.
  • Setting up and maintenance of communication equipment (radios, satellite telephone).
  • Training and management of national staff.
  • Follow up of security in coordination with Head of Mission.
  • Qualifications: 
  • Relevant degree or previous logistics experience.
  • Second language skills highly recommended.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.
  • Ability to adapt within the working environment.
  • Ability to work within a team setting.
    Experience
  • 2 years work experience compulsory.
  • Proven experience in organization and problem solving.
  • Previous overseas work experience in logistics is highly preferred.
  • Previous management experience is highly preferred.
