Job Objectives: 
Established in the USA in 1985, Action Against Hunger-USA re-opened its New York office in 1997 and currently has responsibility for seven missions in six countries: Democratic Republic of Congo East and West, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, Tajikistan and Uganda. Action Against Hunger USA manages nearly $30 million in programs, has twenty-five permanent staff based in NYC, over 70 international employees and 1,200 national employees in the missions.
Main Objective
In charge of the establishment, maintenance and continuation of emergency water supply systems for the ACF program in accordance with the ACF Charter. Primary activity/responsibility for the retrieval and updating of information compiled by ACF, from which the expertise of ACF can be developed.
Responsibilites
Water
  • Water quality analysis (supervision of biological and chemical testing).
  • Treating water in nutritional centers and providing safe drinking water.
  • Building, protection and/or rehabilitation of wells and waterpoints.
  • Installing and maintaining hand pumps.
  • Design of water networks, spring capping.
  • Hydro-geological and geo-physical investigation in view of drilling.
  • Borehole drilling and equipment maintenance.
    Sanitation
  • Latrine construction
  • Devising, organizing and supervising environmental health engineering program (waste disposal, refuse disposal, vector control).
  • Co-ordination with other agencies on data collection and analysis to track contamination sources.
    Staff
  • Management of building sites (management of human resources, purchase of material).
  • Staff training and supervision.
  • Qualifications: 
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Further qualification in water and sanitation with focus on developing countries.
  • Ability to work within a team setting.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.
  • Second language skills highly recommended.
  • Ability to adapt within the working environment.
    Experience
  • Two years relevant work experience compulsory.
  • Previous overseas experience highly preferred.
  • Previous management experience is highly preferred.
