What is your proposed G Movement athletic challenge?
My challenge is to be starting varsity for Suffield High Basketball this coming season and score 300 points within this season. Also to be able to dunk by my Sr. year. How I will successfully complete this goal is by working out everyday and practicing my shot and speed. This will enable me to start each varsity game and allow me to better my chances of scoring 300 points. In order to complete my goal of dunking the basketball, I would practice jumping and increase my lower body strength.
Why do you think it is important to bring attention to the issues of global hunger? Why were you motivated to participate in G Movement?
It is important to bring attention to the issues of global hunger because in the world today people waste food and do not realize that the food they throw away could feed hundreds of starving children. Also the fact that people are so picky -- and everyone is guilty of it -- when some families do not get to pick what they eat but are lucky and thankful for even receiving food. I was motivated to take part in the G Movement by my History teacher in my International Studies Honors class. He taught me about international NGO's and I researched Action Against Hunger because I want to help stop world hunger. He told us that actions speak louder than words and everyone always says they want to help but no one ever does. This made me realize that no matter your age or how well-off you are, you can make a difference.
How would a $2,000 grant enable you to complete your challenge?
The $2,000 grant would help me pursue my challenge of reaching my goal in high school basketball. It would give me the education and different ways to successfully complete my goal of dunking and become a starting varsity player. This money would not only help my personal goal but help me become a fit person and allow me the opportunity to help others while reaching my own goals.
