As Action Against Hunger’s Senior Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Advisor, Nick Radin oversees all technical aspects of ACF’s water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH) programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan and Nigeria.
Radin joined Action Against Hunger in 2003 as a WASH Program Manager, helping ACF deliver regional responses to complex humanitarian emergencies in a range of contexts: cholera prevention efforts in Katanga, D.R. Congo; infrastructure-building projects in post-conflict central Afghanistan; and emergency water programs for cross-border returnees in Burundi. As ACF’s Program Coordinator in Somalia, Radin oversaw an array of WASH program activities in the country’s south-central regions: chlorination and cholera mitigation activities in Mogadishu; water point development and rehabilitation for subsistence farmers and pastoralist communities; and drought response activities such as emergency water trucking and blanket distributions of high protein biscuits for families with young children.
Radin joined ACF’s New York headquarters as a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Advisor in 2008, and currently provides technical oversight for all ACF water, sanitation & hygiene activities taking place in D.R. Congo, Pakistan and Nigeria. Leveraging his expertise and field experience, Mr. Radin contributes regularly to technical publications and field guidelines—he served on the peer review team for the WASH chapter of the 2011 Sphere Standards Handbook—and represents ACF in technical engagements with the United Nations, government ministries, and other humanitarian actors.
A native of the United Kingdom, Mr. Radin received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and a Master’s degree in Engineering for Development from the University of Southampton. Radin joined Action Against Hunger after completing his dissertation on the sustainability of water systems installed by ACF in Nicaragua in the wake of Hurricane Mitch.
