Race Against Hunger Educational Trips

Last week I traveled to Clinton, New Jersey to give presentations for the Race Against Hunger—our largest student initiative. I visited three schools in the Clinton Township School District: Clinton Township Middle School, Round Valley Academy and Spruce Run School. Aside from presenting to the students, I attended a PTA meeting where I met with parents, school administrators and the superintendent. It was an extremely rewarding experience meeting everyone and seeing how the whole community has gotten involved in supporting ACF and the Race Against Hunger. I will be attending Race events at each of the schools on June 3rd, so keep checking our Race page for photos at the event!

While I was traveling to New Jersey, my colleague Melinda went to California for educational presentations. Back in March, when we attended the National Service Learning Conference, we met a Service Learning Coordinator from Pomona, CA who invited us to be a guest lecturer for a service learning graduate course at California Polytechnic State University; so Melinda scheduled the presentation while traveling to Race schools.

The class consisted of about 15 educators –from elementary to high school, and Melinda had the opportunity to speak about our educational programs, specifically the Race Against Hunger, and discuss ways to use our educational resources in the classroom. It turned out to be a great way to network and get more educators involved with ACF.

Overall our Education Team had a great week!
