Easy Rider Tours bikes and hikes for Action Against Hunger.

Adventure travel specialist Easy Rider Tours knew it wanted to give back as part of its 25th anniversary celebration in 2010. For the cycling and hiking tour company, whose motto is “Ride to eat, eat to ride,” Action Against Hunger was a heartfelt choice.

Easy Rider Tours runs high-end, guided bicycling and walking vacations in maritime Canada, New England, and Europe, with a special emphasis on biking in Ireland, Portugal, and Spain. Hearty breakfasts, gourmet picnic lunches, and sumptuous dinners are a key component of every tour.

“We take all these delicious meals for granted without ever thinking how lucky we are,” says founder and director Jim Goldberg, “Making it to our 25th year in business has led us to do some real soul-searching, and we knew we wanted to do something meaningful to give back. Reliable access to healthy food and drinkable water is a privilege we’ve come to expect, while for so many others it’s still out of reach. We especially admire Action Against Hunger’s mission of sustainable access to food and clean water throughout the world.”

Easy Rider Tours is making a donation for every mile pedaled or hiked during its 2010 season to Action Against Hunger.

Easy Rider Tours will donate $.10 for every mile pedaled and $1 for each mile hiked during its entire 2010 season. The company’s one- to two-week cycling trips range from 70 to 500 miles in length, with a choice of mileage options every day.

“Our hope is that every guest will meet the challenge by biking the longest mileage option on every day of their trip,” says Goldberg. “Ten cents a mile may not sound like much, but, as they say, there’s power in numbers. Twelve cyclists taking our 420-mile “Vineyards & Castles” bike tour in Portugal would add up to an Easy Rider donation of $500 for that trip. It’s a great way to see the world and make a meaningful contribution at the same time.”

Easy Rider’s biking and walking tour schedule runs from April through October 2010, with over 40 departures slated. “This year’s guests will generate a contribution with every step and every pedal stroke. We’re hoping that our participants will really rack up the miles for Action Against Hunger.”
