Artists Against Hunger

Steve Buscemi, Jim Jarmusch, Cara Seymour, and others Join Action Against Hunger to Bring Attention to the Deadly Conditions in the Congo

Actors, Artists and Aid Workers Bring Attention to Reports of Rampant Malnutrition and Starvation amidst Historic Elections in the Congo

On Monday, October 16, at 7pm, Cara Seymour will be joined by actor Steve Buscemi and musical performers Jesse Marlin and Neo Raphoto for a press conference with the international aid organization Action Against Hunger (ACF) to discuss the desperate situation where 1,200 people die each day from hunger and preventable diseases in the Congo.

The conference will precede a sold out "Artists Against Hunger" three-hour event, which will be hosted by actor Cara Seymour. It will present readings, film, music and art by such luminaries as actors Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, and musical performer Jesse Malin. Kicking off at 8:00 pm at Moe's Bar in Brooklyn, the event will recognize World Food Day and raise awareness, understanding, and funds for curing acute malnutrition in the Congo and in more than 40 other countries where Action Against Hunger has relief programs.

Action Against Hunger began its programs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1996, providing emergency relief and sustainable solutions to the hunger and poverty in a country where over 30% of children under five are malnourished (3.5 to 5 million of them severely) and more than 50% don't have appropriate access to safe drinking water. Action Against Hunger currently works in the Congo's South Kivu and Katanga provinces, assisting more than 400,000 people with nutrition, water and sanitation, and food security programs.
