Earlier this summer, Action Against Hunger unveiled its new partnership with Connecticut-based North American Power, a retail electricity supplier that not only allows customers to save on their utility bills, but at the same time helps support our mission and that of other non-profit organizations. Each time a consumer pays his or her monthly electric bill, $1 per customer is donated by North American Power to one of several selected charities, including ACF.

Shortly after that announcement, North America Power introduced a new initiative, American Wind, designed to motivate people to advance the clean-energy movement. By purchasing an American Wind Renewable Energy Credit (REC) for under $20 a month, North American Power customers are investing in the generation of 1,000 kWh each month of renewable energy. To date, North American Power customers have purchased over 1.1 million kWh of electricity from wind farms which, over the course of 1 year, is the equivalent of the greenhouse gas emissions of 1,785 passenger vehicles!

As a humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting severe acute malnutrition, Action Against Hunger is aware how shifting climate patterns are already causing adverse effects on vulnerable communities that are dependent on agriculture. Increasing the use of renewable, non-polluting energy sources like wind is a key component of reducing our carbon footprint. That’s why clean energy programs like American Wind are worth our attention!
