Where Does Our Staff Come From?
Action Against Hunger’s international programs are largely staffed by national staff members—individuals who reside in the countries we work in. As an agency with more than 4,600 staff, only some 10% are international, or expatriate, staff. This has several implications: we’re a lean organization and only send individuals with the necessary managerial and technical skills abroad—i.e., prior field experience is a must for working with us; we build local capacity and ensure professional development through the very existence of our international

By integrating our programs with local and national systems we transform effective, short-term interventions into sustainable, long-term solutions.
Strengthening government institutions and ensuring local capacity is the only way to ensure our programs are sustained after we’re no longer needed. A community-centered approach is central to building local capacity to manage and maintain our programs.
